I did my professional exchange in Hungary in July 2007. I worked for a month in the university hospital of Szeged, in the department of general surgery. The beginning of my exchange period wasn't so promising. On the first day I went to the clinics together with a Hungarian boy, who was one of our contact persons. It turned out that the doctor who was supposed to be my supervisor was on a holiday. We walked around the department about half an hour until we finally found another doctor. I did my clerkship at the department of cardiology in the university hospital of Szeged which is a nicely sized city (~200 000 inhabitants) in southern Hungary.

Trying to find out what to do in the hospital was not so easy owing to the lack of language skills of the department staff. My tutor doctor was good at English, though, and she introduced me to many different investigation laboratories, such as electrophysiologic, echocardiographic and invasive cardiac units.
