Meksiko

I attended an exchange programme in Monterrey, Mexico in July 2007. I was on research exchange and the group I had applied for was in the department of gastroenterology and did research on viral hepatitis.

 

I spent January 2007 in Monterrey, Mexico doing a clerkship in obstetrics and gynaecology, which had been my first choice for clinic. The hospital was Dr. Jose Eleuterio Hospital, a big public hospital connected to a university with the same name. The patients who came were all from lower social classes, since the middle and upper classes use the private health care facilities that abound in the city, which has been said to be the richest in Latin America. Still the treatment was not free for the patients, but much more affordable than the private clinics.
