Ateena 2007

My professional exchange started the first of June and ended the first of July. I spend some time looking for the cheapest flights and finding the easiest combination when it came to arrivals and departures. I was quite lucky to find the cheapest flight tickets for the same days as my period of stay. I flew with Malev Hungarian Airlines via Budapest to Athens (350EUR from STA Travel). I had student boarding from June the first, the very beginning.

Before I left Finland for Athens, I mailed my contact person and

Thessaloniki 2006

I attended a professional exchange in July 2006 in Greece, Thessaloniki. I flew there via Prague with Czech Airlines, because it was the cheapest one, return ticket was 400 euros. I left two days before my exchange was supposed to begin. Only problem was that the plain arrived to Thessaloniki at 2 AM, but luckily my Greek contact person came to pick me up from the airport as he had promised and took me to the dormitory. There was also two other exchange students on the same flight, which was nice because I was able to make friends right from the start.

Kreetta 2007

I made my exchange in Crete after three years of studying. I travelled there by plane through Athens. I got final information of my destination in Greece only a month before leaving so the tickets cost ca 550 e. It`s also possible to take a ferry from Athens to Heraklion which is a bit cheaper. Local students picked me up from airport. During my staying there I had very few contacts with local medical students, which I was quite suprised about. Me and other 9 IFMSA students had two local tutors who studied physics. They organised us some activities and were very

Ateena 2006

I spent a great four weeks in Athens. I experience included friendly atmosphere in the hospital, many interesting persons and personalities, beautiful sceneries and plenty of sun and fun.

Accommodation: The exchange students were accommodated at a basic hotel in the centre of Athens. We shared a room with another student which was good. The rooms were okay: we had a shower and a toilet in the rooms. There was an air conditioning in the room, too. The laundry facilities on the other hand did not exist, and there was no kitchen whatsoever. That was a bit

Ateena 2006

My clerkship took place in the capital of Greece, Athens. I worked as an exchange student in the department of Gynecology and Obstetrics of  the University of Athens. The hospital building was  quite old but all the equipments including ultrasounds and CTGs were modern. There were several differences between the clinics in Finland and Greece. They didn´t have as many midwives or nurses as in Finland but there were more than 40 doctors at the clinic. It seemed like most of them were presented to me as professors

Heraklion 2007

The project I was supposed to take part in was in the department of gastroenterology in the university hospital of Crete. The original plan was for me to take part in research concerning hepatocellular carcinoma, but when I asked along with my Canadian roommate from the professor leading the project if we could participate in clinical work instead, he was perfectly fine with it, so
I ended up spending a month in the clinic of Gastroenterology.
