Leiden 2006

I was doing my clinical clerkship in Holland and name of the city was Leiden. There is a huge university hospital called LUMC. And there I was visiting in the department of Infectious Diseases. During my clerkship I participated  in clinical rounds, infectious diseases consultations and discussion on infectious disease patients in general. I also went to see some operation every while and then. Especially then when there weren´t many patients and that´s why there was a little bit boring sometimes. Maybe the outpatient clinic was the most interesting part of  my clerkship,

Groeningen 2006

I did my clinical clerkship in the department of urology in Groningen. The hospital was huge and extremely beautiful with fountains, palm trees and many different art works inside. The department consisted of a functional centre, day time surgery, operation room, out-patient clinic, ward and ward for children. On the same department there was also a girl from Brazil. We could decide our selves where to go and what to see each day. We found the operations the most interesting because there weren't so much language

Rotterdam 2006

Rotterdam 2007

My research exchange was to the General Practitioners’ Department of the Erasmus Medical Centre (=MC) in Rotterdam where I spent my days leaving through old studies on Migraine and filling out questionnaires about them. Working hours were from 9 to 5 but everything was very flexible and I even got a few free days.

Rotterdam 2006

My clinical exchange was to the Surgery Department of the Erasmus Medical Center in Rotterdam. Unfortunately, my intended supervising doctor in the Deparment of Traumatology had just retired. That is why the original plan of staying the whole of my five weeks in the trauma ward changed into two weeks in the Vascular Surgery, two weeks in the Traumatology and one week in the Lower Gastro-intestinal Surgery Department. These wards I was allowed to choose according to my own wishes, and at every ward I mainly

Groningen 2004

I spent July 2004 in the Academic Hospital of Groningen (het Academisch Ziekenhuis Groningen). I did my professional exchange in the anesthesiology clinic. The hospital was situated in the city centre and had been build up in a timeline of a decade, with one complex at the time. This was because the city/administratives - this is a very dutch phenomenon, I think! - had decided to build the new hospital at the exact same spot as the old one. The hospital was new (less than 10 years old) and of impressive size.

I spent my days at the anaesthesiology clinic. Mostly my days

Leiden 2004

I came to Holland one day earlier to have a little time to settle down before my exchange program was going to start. My tutor picked me up from the airport and took me to that studenthouse I was going to stay for the month. The studenthouse was quite in a bad shape comparing to Finland, everything was dirty and broken. There were almost 15 Dutch students living with me, so at least there was somebody home almost all the time.

Amsterdam 2003

I took part in a clerkship exchange for 4 weeks at the Free University Medical Centre, one of the two medical universities in Amsterdam. I worked on a department for orthopedic surgery and I liked it a lot!
